With Kaizer Chiefs working on numerous deals at this point in time as the transfer window enters the final week, a two-year deal for one player could soon be finalised.
The Siya crew recently reported that Bernard Parker was closing in on a new contract with the Glamour Boys as he looked to commit his future to the club once again, with the player seemingly eager to play out the remainder of his career at Naturena.
Parker, who will turn 34 in a few weeks, is still playing a major role in Ernst Middendorp’s side despite his age, featuring in 16 Absa Premiership matches as they marched to the top of the table this season.
Now, with the attacker one of several Chiefs players who will see their current contracts expire at the end of 2019/20, it appears he is on the verge of signing a new deal that could see him remain with the club until beyond his 35th birthday.
Speaking in this week’s Soccer Laduma, the player’s agent, Mike Makaab said, “Yes, there’s been progress… We’re currently in negotiations with Kaizer Chiefs regarding a new one-year deal with a one-year option for Bernard, and we’re very close to getting things finalised.”
Parker has played 24+ league games in all of the last eight campaigns for Amakhosi, and will be looking to do so again this season as the club looks to end their lengthy trophy drought with a league title.
