Chiefs’ Maluleka Names ‘The One I’m After’…
Kaizer Chiefs’ George Maluleka is looking forward to playing against his former club, but admits that it does come with its challenges…
The 30-year-old has featured in both of Chiefs’ league games this season as they got off to a 100% start with wins over Highlands Park and Black Leopards, and they’re currently enjoying their best Absa Premiership opening since the 2014/15 season – when they last won the the league title.
This weekend they face SuperSport United at FNB Stadium, and Maluleka will be hoping to get on the scoresheet once again after scoring the winner (and his last league goal) against his former club back in December.
Chiefs can go back on top of the table if they get a result against his former employers, and speaking to the club’s official website, the former Matsatsantsa man said, “Playing against players you are familiar with is always a challenge, because you know each other but it is exciting as well… You always need to make sure you at your best for things to come right on the field, I am excited, and I know its going to be a challenging game.
But there’s one player in particular that ‘Mido’ is looking to get one over on, with the midfield man saying, “To be honest, Ronwen is the one I am after… Him and I always have this competition which started on the training ground when we were teammates. So when it happens in a game and I score I feel like I have the upper hand. Nothing against him, work is work, to score is always good for your morale and confidence and I am always happy to help the team out.”
“We are close on and off the field, but like I said its going to be a battle this weekend and all the friendship goes away when we on the field.”
Chiefs and SuperSport lock horns at 18h00 on Saturday.
