Chiefs To Slug It Out With SuperSport For Alexander?

Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United are said to be involved in a race to secure the services of Bidvest Wits midfielder Cole Alexander.

The latest news reaching the Siya crew’s desk is that Chiefs have made fresh informal enquiries in to the availability of the Wits midfielder.

Alexander is one of the many players who are heavily linked with an exit from the Clever Boys, this following the sale of the club to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhadila owner and businessman Masala Mulaudzi.

The club played its last game as ‘Bidvest Wits’ on September 05, and will now be renamed and relocated to Venda.

Siya sources have since informed the crew that Chiefs have made fresh informal enquiries into Alexander’s availability, showing interest in the possibility of finally bringing him on board at Naturena.

It was reported in May last year that there had been talks for the 31-year-old’s services, though the situation was different back then and Wits were not willing to let one of their key players go to their rivals.

Now with the sale of Wits and Chiefs weakened midfield, sources have revealed that a move to Naturena is still on the cards, but only if they are able to get their two-window transfer ban overturned.

Amakhosi will appeal against the transfer ban imposed by FIFA on September 8-9 with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The Soweto giants are in desperate need of reinforcements, especially in their midfield, this after George Maluleka’s departure, Kearyn Baccus being linked with an exit and age not on Willard Katsande’s side.

Chiefs have already made an approach for Thabang Monare from Wits and it remains to be seen whether they will be able to bring both midfielders on board, should they get their transfer ban thrown out.

Agent Issues Apology After Shocking Gyimah Disappearance

Meanwhile, Alexander has also been linked with a return to SuperSport United. The Tshwane outfit have been in the market for a midfield hard man, following the departure of Dean Furman during the COVID-19-enforced break.

The player is no stranger to SuperSport, having spent time there during the 2017/18 campaign. Under Eric Tinkler, he struggled for game-time, making just seven appearances during an injury-ravaged season.

It is understood that Kaitano Tembo has earmarked Alexander for a similar role to the one Furman previously occupied that would allow the attacking talent of Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule to flourish.
