Four Chiefs, Five Ahly Stars Dominate CAF Team

CAF’s official team of the week was littered with stars from both Al Ahly and Kaizer Chiefs following their respective heroics at the weekend.

It comes as very little surprise that players from the Red Eagles and the Phefeni Glamour Boys have received plaudits from CAF for their exploits in their wins this weekend with both sides pulling off impressive victories this weekend.

For Pitso Mosimane and his men, they had to overcome trying circumstances in Tunisia to register a vital 1-0 away victory against Esperance, despite threats to have the match called off due to clashes between Esperance supporters and Tunisian police.

For the efforts, Ahly saw five of their players named in the CAF team of the week, including match winner, Mohamed Sherif.

Amakhosi were the other side to dominate the CAF Team of the Week, with four stars, including the heroes of the weekend in Bruce Bvuma and Samir Nurkovic getting the nod.

Chiefs managed to grab an all-important away win in Morocco this weekend over Wydad Casablanca thanks to a Nurkovic striker that gave the Soweto giants the upper hand heading into the second leg.

Only two players from the losing sides in Esperance and Wydad Casa were recognized for their efforts in left back Ilyes Chetty (Esperance) and attacker Walid El Karti (Wydad) who make up the rest of the team.

The sides will square off in the second leg fixtures which take place at the Cairo International Stadium and Soccer City Stadium – both matches will be played on Saturday 26 June.
