Khanye Reflects On Chiefs’ Cup Loss: ‘It’s A Disaster’

Following his bold prediction that Kaizer Chiefs would lose to TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final, Junior Khanye has suggested that the club should ‘start all over again’ in attempting to change the team’s fortunes.

Amakhosi lost 1-0 to the National First Division side in the cup final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday in what turned out to be a shock result in the PSL’s history as well as in the history of the prestigious competition.

“I said it last week that Chiefs would lose to TS Galaxy and I know that I may have appeared as someone who doesn’t like the club for saying that. I hope that the fans will realise that I don’t hate Chiefs but I am saying things as they are – the way I see them. We have played football to the top level and we can see when things are not happening the way they should,” said Khanye.

“Some players at Chiefs don’t deserve to be at the club, as I said before. Some of the players don’t deserve the badge – it’s a disaster. If (Itumeleng) Khune was there, Chiefs would be in top eight. He was the team’s saviour. He is one of the few players that deserve to play for Chiefs,” he added.

The midfielder has questioned some of the technical team decisions made by head coach Ernst Middendorp in some matches during the season.

“The coach failed with his tactics in approaching the game. His substitutions don’t always complement what happens on the field. It was like he wasn’t watching the game. The problem starts with the players not understanding the culture of the club. It isn’t something new. This thing has been going on since four or five seasons ago. Khune saved Chiefs on a number of times and helped the team to qualify for the top eight when things were not looking good. I knew that something like what is happening now would eventually happen, and when he got injured I said, ‘There you go, people will get exposed.’

"I would not have been surprised if Chiefs were to play in the play-offs. There is no difference between Chiefs and TS Galaxy these days. I’m sorry, Chiefs need to go back and restructure and start all over again. I respect Bro K as a father and Bobsteak for what Kaizer Chiefs did to make me the person I am today, but the truth is the truth. Chiefs is no longer the same,” Khanye said.
