Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Ntokozo ‘Koloba’ Sikhakhane has lauded the club’s head coach Ernst Middendorp for Amakhosi’s progress.
Sikhakhane is confident that more is still to come this season for the current Absa Premiership log leaders under the German mentor.
As the club gets ready for their match against Polokwane City this Saturday, the Soweto giants are oozing with confidence as the team is positioned at the top of the standings after four matches.
“I said it about Kaizer Chiefs last season that they were a team with signs of revival and that they would return to winning ways. Having worked with Middendorp before, I know what kind of a coach he is – he is capable. Yes, last season, after he arrived at the club halfway through, he was unsuccessful in qualifying the team for the top eight. Some people looked at him in a negative way and forgetting that he found the players there when he joined the club. He had to work with the players he found there. People forget that for any coach it’s easier to prepare a team with the players of his choice than the players signed by someone else,” said Sikhakhane.
“The difference now is that Middendorp had the time to prepare and that’s why the team has had a good start. This time around it’s a different ball game. Chiefs’ results this season prove that it’s very important for a club to start a season with a coach that will be involved in signing players, instead of having the management signing the players on his behalf, because it’s never fair when that happens,” Sikhakhane added.
