Kaizer Chiefs felt like they ‘had to split’ with James Kotei following the Ghanaian’s short and unsuccessful spell with the Glamour Boys this season.
It was announced earlier in the week that the midfield man had had his contract with Chiefs ‘terminated by mutual agreement’ after just a few months at the club, and he left Naturena without even making his competitive debut for the club.
Kotei, 26, was snapped up as a free agent following his exit from Simba SC in Tanzania earlier in the year, but for whatever reason never made the cut under Ernst Middendorp and made the matchday squad just once – on the opening day of the season against Highlands Park.
Chiefs’ Football Manager, Bobby Motaung, had his short say on the Kotei matter, speaking of football’s ‘own dynamics’ as the former Simba man now begins to consider his options elsewhere.
He told the club’s official website, “We were happy when James joined us… Unfortunately, football has its own dynamics. James didn’t play and we felt that we had to split amicably.”
It now remains to be seen where Kotei will end up amid links with both Young Africans and ZESCO United, but he’ll no doubt be looking to get back out on the field as soon as possible and get his career back on track.
