“The whole team should be supporting Akpeyi, including Itumeleng Khune,” a former goalkeeper has come out to say.
Khune’s situation at Kaizer Chiefs has been a topic of conversation ever since football’s restart, with the football fraternity questioning his absence in the Amakhosi squad over the past four encounters.
As reported by the Siya crew in this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma, sources in the know have indicated that there could have been a potential fall-out between Khune and Ernst Middendorp.

However, while there is speculation on Khune’s immediate situation, all eyes are still on Daniel Akpeyi, who has established himself as Chiefs’ number one between the sticks.
The Nigerian shot-stopper may not be receiving the same love from the fans as Khune does, but he’s become one of the key contributors to Chiefs' title run this season.
Speaking on Amakhosi’s official website, former goalkeeper, Brian Baloyi has called on the entire team, especially Khune to get behind the 34-year-old, with a big fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns awaiting the Soweto giants tomorrow.
“Soccer is a team sport. Akpeyi has done well and the whole team should be supporting him, including Itumeleng Khune, who is the captain. To be a captain is not only about what you do on the pitch, it’s also what you do off it. Leaders are there to lead the team and I am sure that’s what Itu (Itumeleng Khune) is doing, even though he’s not playing, motivating his teammates and rallying the troops to go into the Sundowns match ready and with a positive mindset,” he said.
