Njabulo Blom may have gotten his Kaizer Chiefs debut against Golden Arrows, but it could be his showing against Mamelodi Sundowns that goes down in memory as his true arrival…

The teenager was a surprise name in Ernst Middendorp’s XI when the Glamour Boys lined up against Masandawana over the weekend, however he went on to play 90 minutes for Chiefs, playing a vital role in the 2-0 victory that took them five points clear at the top of the Absa Premiership table.
At just 19, the stage at Loftus Versfeld could have been a daunting one for the Amakhosi youth product, but he stepped up to the plate in more ways than one and even adapted strongly when his position was shifted following an injury to Reeve Frosler.
Blom actually had more touches (46) than any other Chiefs player on the day, while only two Amakhosi players made more passes (34) and just one made more accurate passes (25).
The teen also stood out with regards to balls won (18), a number only bettered by Erick Mathoho (19), and he made nine clearances on the day as he made two vital defensive interceptions to keep the opponent at bay.
It remains to be seen whether the versatile defender-cum-midfielder will keep his place when Chiefs go into battle with bitter rivals, Orlando Pirates, at the weekend, but Middendorp has already praised him for his showing in Tshwane and will be delighted to see him join the growing list of academy graduates turning out for the senior team.
