Khama Billiat’s standout performance against Swallows FC is an indication that the Zimbabwean marksman is edging towards his best form in a Kaizer Chiefs shirt.
A look back to three seasons ago, was the the last time the 31-year-old scored a brace.
Billiat bagged two goals against Cape Town City in the 2018/19 season in a 4-1 win for Chiefs. That was the season in which he switched allegiances from Mamelodi Sundowns to Chiefs with high expectations placed on his shoulders by Amakhosi’s die-hard supporters, owing to his exploits at Chloorkop.
Sadly though, injuries and sometimes a lack of confidence has meant that Billiat often appeared a shadow of his former self in a Chiefs jersey, much to the frustration of supporters.
But, it appears that all he needed was a familiar face.
Since the arrival of Keagan Dolly at Naturena, Billiat has been sparked back into life. The Zimbabwean has had more goal involvements (10) this season than he did in his last two seasons combined.
Billiat’s resurgence was underlined by his performance against Swallows in a Soweto Derby that ultimately cost coach Brandon Truter and his entire technical team their jobs.
He set up Dolly for Chiefs’ opener before superbly taken solo goals saw him get the better of Jody February in the Swallows goal in either half.
The double on the day saw Billiat bag his fourth goal and sixth assist of the campaign as Chiefs stormed into second place on the DStv Premiership standings.
Could this be an indication that he is getting back to his best, possibly?
