Interest In Chiefs’ Billiat Confirmed

Interest in Kaizer Chiefs’ Khama Billiat has been confirmed, with the forward having emerged as one of the sought-after players from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Billiat has caught the eye of scouts at the 2019 Afcon in Egypt, as revealed in edition 1131 of Soccer Laduma.

The 28-year-old played for the Zimbabwe senior national team at the continental showpiece, and although The Warriors were knocked out in the Group stages, his individual performances did not go unnoticed.

In addition, Billiat was one of the top performers for Chiefs last season, after making 25 starts for the team in the league and scored 14 goals in all competitions, although the 2018/19 campaign was relatively unsuccessful for the Soweto giants.

Siya sources have revealed that Egyptian giants Al Ahly, who previously had Mamelodi Sundowns’ Phakamani Mahlambi on their books after signing him from Bidvest Wits in 2017, have shown a keen interest in Billiat.

“Al Ahly is very interested in Khama Billiat, and they are not the only club interested in the player after Zimbabwe’s participation in the Afcon,” confirmed a Siya source.

Al Ahly, however, are not the only club interested in the former Sundowns star, according to sources in the know.

“The player attracted interest from a number of clubs, who had their scouts in Egypt. Zamalek is one of the clubs interested in the boy. There are a few other clubs from Morocco and Tunisia, respectively, that are keen on the player,” added the source.

Billiat’s agent, Michael Ngobeni from M Sport Management, confirmed that he has been directing all enquiries to Chiefs.

“I can’t deny that there is interest in the player from a number of clubs, but what I have done was to tell each one of them that have contacted me to contact Chiefs directly and to talk to them as the player has a contract with the club.

“There is nothing much I can do.

“I send all the clubs that are calling me to Chiefs. If Chiefs want to sell, they will say so and we can take it from there,” said Ngobeni.

Billiat’s contract with Chiefs runs until 2021. He signed a three-year deal when he joined from Sundowns, though the club does have an option to extend it further by a year.
