Samir Nurkovic recently returned for Kaizer Chiefs to great effect. There are numbers that prove just how effective he has been when he has played for Amakhosi!
Nurkovic’s impact for Chiefs is hard to deny, even for the most ardent sceptic. Like it or not, Chiefs are a better side with ‘Kokota’ in it.

Having signed as a free agent at the start of the 2019/20 season, his impact was immediately felt as he powered Chiefs to a thrilling opening day victory against the now-defunct Highlands Park.
In total, the 28-year-old played 26 games for Amakhosi in the 2019/20 campaign, two of those were as a sub. In the matches that he has played Chiefs have enjoyed a 53% win ratio with 14 wins. Amakhosi tasted defeat only six times when Nurkovic was on the field last season and have a 23% loss ratio. Similarly, Amakhosi played out six league draws last season, with a 23% draw ratio.
In terms of goals, the Serbian had an impressive record of 0,5 goals per game. The striker scored 13 goals in 26 appearances for the Soweto giants.
In total, Chiefs scored 48 goals and Nurkovic contributed 23% of those.
He missed four games in a total of four Ernst Middendorp’s side. Two due to injury and two due to suspension. Three of those ended in victory for Chiefs, while they only suffered one defeat in the process.
This season, Nurkovic missed eight of Chiefs’ opening matches. To say his presence was missed is an understatement.
Gavin Hunt’s side has won just one match when he was out injured and have a shocking 12.5% win rate without him. Chiefs have further drawn four matches and suffered three defeats in the DStv Premiership during that time.
However, with his injury problems behind him, Nurkovic returned for Chiefs to great effect. With him in the side, Hunt’s side has a 75% win rate having won four out of the three matches in which he has featured. They have suffered just one defeat to Maritzburg United with a 25% loss ratio.
Chiefs have scored 13 goals this season. Nurkovic has contributed to 23% of those already. He has scored one and provided a further two assists.
It is little wonder then Chiefs were adamant to hold on to their star man amid interest from Egypt and the Gulf region.
