‘I Don’t Regret My Time At Chiefs’

Lorenzo Gordinho has found a new home at Bidvest Wits and the defender has opened up on life as a Clever Boy, as well as the time he spent at Kaizer Chiefs.

After an impressive loan spell with Bloemfontein Celtic in the 2017/18 season, Gordinho was expected to make the step up at Kaizer Chiefs to claim a regular starting berth.

The 26-year-old however opted to make the switch across Johannesburg due to a lack of game-time with the Glamour Boys. After almost a decade at Naturena, it is no surprise that Gordinho has only fond memories of his time with Chiefs.

Talking to his club’s website, the Benoni-born defender reveals he has no regrets with how things turned out at the Soweto giants.

“I don’t regret my time there (Chiefs). I only have good memories even on the bad days when you look at it now it seems like they were still decent memories. I have so many memories there and they are all good and they helped me to be the player I am today and everyone that I have met at Chiefs who have come and gone, some that I left behind at the club, we all shared memories, friendships and we helped each other grow. It’s something that I am happy that I’ve been through and experienced,” Gordinho said.

Having grown disgruntled with a lack of game-time, the Bafana international has already made nine appearances for Gavin Hunt’s side in all competitions this season and opened up on what convinced him to join Wits when the approach was made for his services.

“It was made an easy decision once I spoke to the club and Jonathan (Schloss) and I realized what their intentions were and what their plan for me was. All I asked was for an opportunity to showcase myself and be myself and they said that you’ll get your opportunity to do that.

“That was the most attractive thing that they wanted me as a player and that they were willing to give me the platform to be myself so once that was put on the table, that is what sold me and obviously once they showed their intentions even though I still had a  few months left on my previous contract led to the deal being done,” Gordinho concluded.
