Hunt Talks Area Of Focus For Chiefs

Following another Soweto Derby defeat, Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt says they will regroup as he highlights an area of concern in his side.

Amakhosi suffered a 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in their DStv Premiership clash at the weekend, a third straight match where they’ve come second best this season against their bitter rivals after the 5-0 aggregate defeat late last year in the two-legged MTN8 semifinals tie.

But there are improvements – like in central defence where Hunt has a few more options now with key players returning from injuries of personal matters.

Reeve Frosler is available again after two months out injured, Erick Mathoho could not be selected having taken time off to bury his father and subsequently had to quarantine for 10 days because he attended a funeral during Covid-19, while Ramahlwe Mphahlele could return for a cup game. A hamstring injury kept him on the sidelines last month.

Chiefs host Richards Bay in Nedbank Cup opening round on Sunday and Hunt has a good headache in picking his back four.

“I will do what I see in front of me. I can’t really do too much. We’ve obviously got Reeve now back, which also gives you another situation.” Hunt told journalists.

“But we have missed Rama the last three or four games and I had brought him in there (centreback) to start and we needed that. He has done well and we need him back. I don’t know if he will be fit for the next game, but those are the things we will have to see in the week as we go along.”

The coach still believes the midfield can improve.

“That is one area where we have to make decisions, but also in the centre of midfield. We need to get that more stable as well. The rest is what we got, but in that area we need to get better,” Hunt explained.
