‘I Cannot Say Publicly What I Know’ – Chiefs Coach

Deflated by the 5-0 aggregate score against their rivals Orlando Pirates, coach Gavin Hunt suggested the obstacles in his Kaizer Chiefs side are much deeper.

His post-match press conference was brief, with journalists firing away questions at the Amakhosi mentor – but Hunt had very little to say.

Chiefs were booted out of the MTN8 double leg semi-finals by the Buccaneers having lost the first encounter a week earlier by 3-0 and then 2-0 on Sunday evening at FNB Stadium in another emphatic performance by Pirates and a lackluster one by Amakhosi.

It also meant the Glamour Boys had now gone five matches without scoring a goal – their win over Chippa United in the DStv Premiership came courtesy of an own goal.

“I cannot say publicly what I know. I know footballers, I know players, I know teams and I know that if anybody can’t see that, then… but I don’t want to elaborate on that,” was Hunt’s cryptic reply to journalists after the game.

“I know what needs to be done. Right now we have to do the best that we can, but there’s not much more I can say about that.”

Asked whether there were any positives, at all, the coach pointed to the performance of young players that have been featuring regularly since his arrival.

He’s been partly forced by the FIFA ban to throw them in at the deep end.

“I took something positive away, that younger players got a run in these two games – felt what it was like, but obviously without crowds there. But they felt what is required at this level, that’s pretty much it. I know what I know, without having to watch it,” said Hunt.
