To observers, some of Gavin Hunt’s decisions during the game may seem bizarre, but the Kaizer Chiefs coach has explained why that is.
Since taking over as Amakhosi boss at the start of the season, the four-time league title winner says he’s not been able to make a tactical change because of injuries – a slight exaggeration given that there have been some matches where he has done so.
But at the weekend, with Chiefs surrendering a slender lead to eventually being held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United in their DStv Premiership clash at FNB Stadium, Hunt made a forced double substitution.
“Every game is the same story,” the coach told the media in relation to having to take off Reeve Frosler and Willard Katsande and bring on Philani Zulu and Daniel Cardoso shortly after the hour mark of the fixture.
“Every game we take off players because of various reasons, I am not taking them off because we want to make a change. It’s been like that for most of the season – I can’t make a tactical change. I have to just make a change to try plug holes, and that’s what it is.”
