The Glamour Boys have had their first transfer window in two seasons and brought in nine new players to bolster the side that finished in eighth place in the 2020/21 season.
Keagan Dolly, Cole Alexander, Phathushedzo Nange, Sibusiso Mabiliso, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Thabani Dube and Brandon Petersen were all brought in at the start of the season and unveiled by Chiefs. Of the nine new faces brought in by Amakhosi, five have stamped their authority at Naturena, while four have found the going tough at the Soweto giants.
It goes without saying that Dolly has been the standout performer this season, with eight goals and four assists in 26 league games, Petersen has usurped both Itumeleng Khune and Daniel Akpeyi to play 11 games in all competitions, going on to claim the Chiefs number one jersey as his own.
It’s been more of an indifferent season for Sekgota and Dube, who have been in and out of the side both under Stuart Baxter and under Arthur Zwane, but Mabiliso’s signing is one that despite initially making headlines, has to go down as outright underwhelming.
Alexander, Nange and Hlanti were all brought in to add much-needed experience to the Chiefs starting XI, and while the midfielders have featured prominently this season, Hlanti’s unfortunate Achilles tendon injury has kept him out of action since November.
With two league games left to play and yet another barren season for Chiefs, fans will be hoping that the club’s next transfer window is more successful in bringing in players that will contribute to ending the club’s ongoing trophy drought which stretches back to 2015.
Who do you think has been Chiefs' best signing in 2021/22?
