Even with the FIFA ban a huge stumbling block to their plans for the new season, it’s thought Kaizer Chiefs have made a breakthrough with Sifiso Hlanti.
Amakhosi announced at the end of last month that the player was keeping fit at Naturena, but did not say whether he would join them permanently or not given that the club is still waiting for the outcome of their appeal.
Hlanti was given his clearance by TTM, the club that purchased the top flight franchise of his former employers, Bidvest Wits.
FIFA banned Chiefs from registering players for the next two transfer windows, but that has not stopped them from talking to potential targets behind the scenes.
The Siya crew reported in last week’s edition of Soccer Laduma that Hlanti has now been offered a three-year contract by Amakhosi that is subject to the sanction being overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
It brings Gavin Hunt’s side closer to edging their rivals on securing the services of the highly rated Bafana Bafana international.
The fact that Hlanti is already training with Chiefs also opens the door to a possible deal – he will settle in quickly and worked with Hunt for several years at Wits, being part of the squad that won the 2017 league title.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates were two of the high-profile clubs also showing interest in Hlanti, but the defender has always said that his wish was to play for the Glamour Boys – and he may finally see it become a reality.
