Agent: It Was A Fair Offer For Chiefs

The agent of Teenage Hadebe has said that the defender’s departure from Kaizer Chiefs last week took him by surprise as it did the football fraternity.

Amakhosi have since confirmed that their Zimbabwean centre back has joined Turkish outfit Yeni Malatyaspor for the upcoming season, which partly solves their foreign quota conundrum. And Mike Makaab has explained to the Siya crew why Chiefs did not stand in Hadebe’s way.

“It was a surprise to us as much as it was a surprise to a lot of people. But I have to be honest and say it was a really good offer,” the agent said, though not revealing the fee, which is believed to be around R4-million.

Hadebe had just returned from the Africa Cup of Nations where they had been eliminated in the group stages after losing to hosts Egypt, holding Uganda to a draw and being thumped 4-0 by the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Zimbabwe didn’t cover themselves in glory, so I am not sure the offer had much to do with the AFCON. But it was a fair offer and a good opportunity for the player. He had a long chat with the club and at the end of the day all parties were happy with the deal. I am told they were interested in Teenage before the tournament,” said Makaab.

Chiefs do still have one foreign player too many on their books and have to offload one more – likely to be transfer-listed Leonardo Castro – to get to the five allowed to be registered as per the Premier Soccer League rules.
