Kaizer Chiefs will have to dig even deeper with Arthur Zwane delivering a verdict many of their loyal fans won’t want to hear.
The Glamour Boys returned to action on Sunday after two weeks of battling with a Covid-19 outbreak at Naturena and seeing their request to have their fixtures for the rest year called off, an appeal which was not granted by the Premier Soccer League.
Despite the adversity, Chiefs beat Sekhukhune United 2-0 in a gutsy performance with Zwane in the dugout standing in for head coach Stuart Baxter, who is recovering from Covid like several other players and staff members.
When asked whether Amakhosi would be returning to full strength anytime soon having fielded a visibly weakened side at the weekend, Zwane’s response was gloomy.
“Unfortunately we won’t be able to have everybody back and fully fit, ready for the next game,” he said, referring to his side’s trip to Royal AM, who thumped them 4-1 the last time they met, this coming Sunday.
“Certain players still have to go for tests when they come back and start doing some physical work before they can join the rest of the boys. And we could even see (against Sekhukhune) we risked some players. But we had no choice. We had a lot of young players in the team and this is good for the future of the club.”
