Following the sacking of Gavin Hunt by struggling Kaizer Chiefs, the Siya crew has been informed why the coach’s departure will not have an effect on Sao Tome international Jardel Nazaré.
Chiefs announced the termination of Hunt’s contract last Friday, two days after they were beaten 2-1 by relegation candidates Black Leopards in a DSTV Premiership match.
The club immediately announced Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard as interim coaches to take charge of the final two matches of the season – against Golden Arrows and TS Galaxy.
Word reaching the Siya crew is that Chiefs had already identified Nazare as a possible target for next season, whether or not they would have had Hunt as coach of the team in the next campaign. This is why Hunt’s departure won’t play a role in whether or not Amakhosi add the left back to their squad for next season.
The Siya crew confirmed last month that the player had a medical with Amakhosi, as they look rebuild their squad to finally end the trophy drought which has now gone on for six years.
This publication has been led to believe that Amakhosi are still interested in the player and he could be registered in July. Indications are that the player and Chiefs are in discussions over a contract.
Nazaré, who was born in Portugal, played in both matches against Bafana Bafana in the Africa Cup of Nations.
