Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Abel ‘Chaklas’ Shongwe, is appealing for patience from the fans in support of the club’s head coach Gavin Hunt as he tries to turn things around for the team.
Hunt has had a disappointing start to his Chiefs tenure, after managing only a single victory from eight matches in their DStv Premiership campaign going into the December break.
With Amakhosi lying in 13th place and with some sections of the supporters appearing to have already started pressing the panic buttons, Shongwe is appealing for support towards the experienced coach.
“They (the supporters) must give Gavin Hunt a chance. Gavin is a good coach and right now he is still trying to put the team together and I can honestly say that Gavin will turn the corner for Chiefs soon. Chiefs is not a small team; Chiefs is a big team. Let’s just be patient and give the coach enough chance to understand the players more,” he said.
“It’s still early but I know that to them (the supporters) it doesn’t go down well with them when the team is playing draws (Chiefs have drawn four and lost three matches), but they must just give the coach a chance. The coach will gel and get used to our players. If you can check, most of the mistakes that happened were caused by the same players. Those are the kind of mistakes that Gavin will work on and try to get the best out of Kaizer Chiefs,” he added.
“I am wishing Gavin the best of luck at Kaizer Chiefs and I know that Kaizer (Motaung) wouldn’t have chosen Gavin if he wasn’t a good coach. What I also like is that he is a South African coach and he’s got a rich history behind him. He has done well at his previous clubs and he is still going to turn the corner with Chiefs as well. Love and Peace supporters let’s just rally behind the coach and give him our full support,” concluded Shongwe.
