Sguda, as Cele is known in football circles, came through the ranks of KwaZulu-Natal club Maritzburg City which was renowned for producing some of the top players that played in Mzansi’s topflight in the early 2000s.
In 2001, the Pietermaritzburg-born player was signed by Pirates and was part of the Bucs side that won the league in the 2001/2002 season.
Cele’s Pirates career was, however, short-lived as he was troubled by injuries which forced him to retire at the young age of 29.
Now a coach, and involved in producing young talent at Maritzburg City, Cele remembers the good old days in Mzansi’s topflight by selecting a dream team which is made up of his former teammates and opponents, as well as some of the players who were South Africa’s top exports when they plied their trade overseas.
