A former Kaizer Chiefs star has weighed in on the imminent exit of midfielder George Maluleka to the Soweto giants' Absa Premiership title rivals.
Maluleka is in the latter stages of his stay in Naturena, with the midfielder set to leave for Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season, as confirmed by Amakhosi.
Following unsuccessful talks over a new contract, as Chiefs had been keen to extend the central midfielder’s deal, the player went on to sign a pre-contract the Brazilians, as announced.
Chiefs confirmed the news of Maluleka signing with Downs earlier this month in saying that, and in part, “Following a string of negotiations‚ the player himself revealed to the club that he has signed a pre-contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Maluleka, 31, is expected to play a huge role in the progress and success of Sundowns in Mzansi and on the continent in the same way that coach Pitso Mosimane and the team have been doing in recent years.
However, former Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has his doubts about the move as he tells the Siya crew, “Sundowns have hurt Chiefs big time with the signing of George. That’s a huge blow! But I want to believe that they haven’t signed him to play (regularly), they are disturbing Chiefs.”
