It may just be 12 games into the season, but there are some worrying signs for these Kaizer Chiefs stars who have largely been overlooked by Gavin Hunt.
Hunt’s start to his Chiefs tenure was by no stretch of the imagination a seamless one.
So much has been written about the 56-year-old’s dismal start at the helm, that his ‘big team credentials’ have come under the spotlight.
However, it appears that Hunt’s philosophy is finally sinking in at Naturena and his team is taking shape.
While this is good news for the ardent Amakhosi fans, it does not particularly bode well for the likes of veteran midfielder Willard Katsande who has been a peripheral figure under Hunt this season.
So far this season Katsande, who has recovered from COVID-19, has been behind the likes of Daniel Cardoso and Anthony Agay in the pecking order, which means the 35-year-old Zimbabwean has made just eight appearances for Hunt’s side in all competitions.
Five of those as a starter, while he has appeared off the bench on three occasions. In total, ‘King Salt has played only 390 minutes of football the entire season!
At the same point last season, Katsande had already played 564 minutes under coach Ernst Middendorp, which shows his steady decline.
The lack of game time will be an area of concern for the veteran midfielder who recently entered into the final six months of his Chiefs contract, which comes to an end in June 2021.
Is Katsande’s reign in the Amakhosi midfield slowly coming to an end?
