The Premier Soccer League appears to have made a subtle adjustment on the status of Kaizer Chiefs’ game away to Golden Arrows.
According to the official fixture list on the PSL website and rights holders SuperSport, the match has been marked as “postponed”.
It’s the biggest indicator yet that there will indeed be no game going ahead, despite Arrows informing the Siya crew last night that as far as they were concerned they would make their way to the Princess Magogo Stadium on Wednesday.
Arrows also confirmed their squad was in camp.
Chiefs, on the other hand, issued a lengthy statement explaining why their players will not be travelling to Durban and effectively missing a second successive DStv Premiership match following their no-show against Cape Town City at the weekend.
In that scenario, City made to trip to Johannesburg, arrived at the FNB Stadium only to find the gates locked with their opponents not in sight!
Chiefs revealed last week Friday that the club had written two letters to the PSL requesting the postponement of their remaining five fixtures for the 2021 – City, Arrows, Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and Maritzburg United.
The club said it had 31 cases at the time between players and staff, while against saying there were five more following another round of testing.
Soccer Laduma reported on Monday that a few of the players who had been in isolation prior to their game against Swallows on November 28 would be coming out of quarantine as Chiefs assessed whether they could put a team together for the Arrows fixture.
But as explained in their statement, this has not been possible and there’s been no official communication by the league.
The only piece of evidence that the game will not be going ahead is the Chiefs statement issued on Tuesday afternoon as well as the updated fixture list on the PSL website.
It’s expected that the match commissioner, referees and Arrows will still make their way to the stadium to follow the process though Chiefs will not honour the fixture.
Should Chiefs be docked points for not playing these two matches?
