A former Kaizer Chiefs striker has confirmed that he has finally received his settlement from the club after he was released with two more years still left on his contract.
Yusuf Bunting was released by Amakhosi in 2019, after spending a season on loan with Highlands Park, and has been without a club since then. During the period, the 25-year-old has been focused on getting his settlement from Chiefs. Now that the former Multichoice Diski Challenge striker has his received the payout, he is ready to make a return to football and can sign for anyone at any time because he is a free agent.
"I am looking for a club at the moment. I had that whole saga with Chiefs and stuff, where I had two years left on my contract after returned from loan at Highlands Park. I was told that I am not part of the coach's plans and from there I had the issue with my contract. It took a while, but eventually it was sorted. You know how it is in South Africa with all these politics and stuff. It was sorted out a month back. But now I have been looking for a club and hopefully in a month or two I can be able to get one," Bunting told the Siya crew.
"With the whole COVID-19, that's why it took a while to get sorted out. It was sorted out about a month ago. That's why I did not look for a club because I had my case going on and you know sometimes to go to another club and tell them that you've got a case going on with Chiefs, it becomes an issue. I did not want to make it difficult for those clubs and for myself as well. I am just waiting for a few options at the moment."
Bunting, who was sent out on loan to Highlands when Giovanni Solinas was at the helm at Chiefs, admits he was disappointed with how he left Amakhosi.
"Yes, I was disappointed. I had been with the club since the age of 16. When I signed my professional contract, I thought I would get my chance. I don't know if it was not meant for me, but the coaches who came through at Chiefs did not like playing youngsters at the time. I was one of the youngsters at the time. Mentally it does kill and frustrate you. I had been at Chiefs for a while and the one year I was the top scorer in the MDC and the year after that we won the Multichoice Diski Shield. I also played in the SAB Under-21 league and I was the top scorer. Unfortunately things happened the way they did."
Bunting revealed what he had been busy with over the last two years or so.
"I've been keeping myself training and I have been busy with my studies as well. After my Chiefs thing, I went to Cape Town. My friend's father owns Santos. They play in the ABC Motsepe League. I went there to keep fit and get some game-time."
