Kaizer Chiefs’ Ernst Middendorp wasn’t sitting idly by last weekend after the loss to SuperSport United, and has revealed that he was already two games ahead…
The Glamour Boys got back to winning ways this week as they thumped Highlands Park 3-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership table to six points, and also equalled their tally of goals from the entirety of last season (33) after just 16 games.
Chiefs had opened the door to Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits as they were beaten 2-1 by SuperSport United last weekend, but he has explained that he flew down to Cape Town to watch this Sunday’s opposition in person to plan for the game after their clash with the Lions of the North – watching Cape Town City beat Baroka 1-0.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Middendorp said, “We are not counting points... To us, what’s key is the match that we’ve just played against Highlands Park. I was in Cape Town on the weekend and saw how Cape Town played and won their game after they went several games without a win. We will reflect on Wednesday’s match and then work out a plan of tackling City on Sunday.”
Meanwhile, Middendorp will be waiting to see whether he will have Reeve Frosler and Lazarous Kambole available for selection this weekend due to their recent knocks, though he will be boosted by the return of Samir Nurkovic following his suspension.
