Kaizer Chiefs coach, Ernst Middendorp, feels that his side should have been awarded a penalty during the extra-time of their match against Highlands Park, before losing on penalties in the end.
Chiefs were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup after losing 5-4 in penalty shootout during the match at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The German coach feels that Amakhosi should have been awarded a penalty kick during extra-time for what looked like a foul on striker Dumisani Zuma.
“Both teams played under unfavourable conditions. We struggled a bit to adapt but I thought we could have been awarded a penalty during extra-time when Dumisani Zuma was tripped with a clear chance to score,” said Middendorp, as quoted on Chiefs’ official website.
Following back-to-back losses against Maritzburg United and Highlands Park, in the league and cup respectively, Chiefs will take on perennial rivals Orlando Pirates in the much-anticipated Soweto Derby on Saturday at FNB Stadium.
