Chiefs were without the services of young striker Keletso Sifama, but Erick Mathoho returned to the defence while Leonardo Castro was named on the bench.

Gavin Hunt's men enjoy most of the possession from the onset but with Castro on the bench, Chiefs had no focal point as they struggled in the final third.

Out of nowhere, Galaxy were awarded a penalty after Kgotso Moleko's tackle from behind on Lindokuhle Mbatha on 27 minutes, but Wade Lekay was unable to profit after the hitting the woodwork.

Even after the penalty miss, Galaxy showed no signs of their confidence taking a knock as they looked more threatening going forward but Chiefs had Daniel Akpeyi to thank for denying Lekay late on in the first half.

Hunt opted to withdraw the in-effective Lebogang Manyama at the start of the second half, as Castro was introduced with the hope of changing the game.

As the situation failed to improve for Chiefs, Anthony Akumu and Kearyn Baccus were thrown on after the hour mark for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Willard Katsande.

Parker should have done better on 69 minutes after being slipped in by Khama Billiat, but the veteran forward failed to hit the target from close range.

Galaxy squandered a glorious chance soon after as Mokete Mogalia managed to get one-on-one with Akpeyi, who did well to make the save with 13 minutes left on the clock.

Unfortunately, that proved to be the final chance of the half as the top-flight rookies managed to secure a point at Chiefs.

Here's how they lined up:
