Gavin Hunt made several alteration to the Chiefs starting line-up. Darrel Matsheke was suspended while Philani Zulu was demoted to the bench. Anthony Akumu came in for the latter, while Bernard Parker, Willard Katsande, Njabulo Blom and Leonardo Castro also came into the starting lineup.
Chiefs had the first big opportunity of the match. Castro held up the ball well just outside the box and fed Bernard Parker down the left. He whipped in the cross with it being cleared out to the waiting Castro, whose first-time shot was struck sweetly but blocked brilliantly by Matsatsantsa defender Bongani Khumalo.
Seven minutes later, SuperSport had their first chance. Jamie Webber whipped in the corner and it was flicked on by Evans Rusike to the far post with Reeve Frosler clearing the ball off the line.
Frosler opened the scoring with a beauty in the 29th minute. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo delivered the corner and it was headed out to Frosler, who curled a sumptuous effort into the far corner.
Tembo made an early change with Lucky Mohomi being pulled off ten minutes before half-time and replaced by Mahachi. But it did little to sway the momentum of the game with Chiefs deservedly leading as the sides headed into the break.
On the hour mark, Itumeleng Khune was forced into action when Sipho Mbule fired a good effort towards the bottom right-hand corner but the Amakhosi shot-stopper got down well to his left to make the save.
Six minutes later, Matsatsantsa won a penalty when Gabuza had his shirt pulled in the box by Akumu in the box. Bradley Grobler stepped up and sent Khune the wrong way to notch up his 13th goal of the season.
Chiefs then hit the crossbar soon afterwards when Akumu almost went from zero to hero after he sent Ngcobo's corner goalwords with Williams tipping the ball onto the bar and it rebounded to safety.
With five minutes to go of regular time Siyabonga Ngezana cut the ball back to Ngcobo, whose placed effort towards the bottom left-hand corner was well tipped away by Williams as the sides shared the spoils.
