Manyama Hat-Trick Keeps Chiefs' Top 8 Hopes Alive

DStv Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 Golden Arrows

Date: 02 June 2021

Venue: FNB Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium to keep their top eight hopes alive.

Reeve Frosler, Willard Katsande, Kearyn Baccus, Lebogang Manyama and Samir Nurkovic came into the Chiefs' starting line-up, while Arrows made just one alteration as Knox Mutizwa came back into the side.

After a lively start to the game, Arrows took the lead in the 21st minute. The ball broke in the box for Michael Gumede, whose first effort was cleared off the line by Erick Mathoho but the Amakhosi could not prevent Gumede's rebound header from going over the line.

Amakhosi equalised 10 minutes later, as Katsande drove into the box between two Arrows defenders before squaring the ball to an unmarked Manyama, who had a simple finish from close range past Sifiso Mlungwana.

Daniel Cardoso then missed a glorious opportunity to take the lead when after a corner Mathoho headed the ball back across the face of goal for Cardoso, who mishit the bouncing ball over the bar.

Shortly after the interval, Castro got down the right-hand side and delivered to the near post for his strike partner Nurkovic, who headed against the outside of the near post.

Chiefs went behind in the 62nd minute. Arrows won the free-kick on the left-hand side and delivered it into the box with Mathoho, under no pressure whatsoever, heading the ball past his own keeper and into the back of the net.

Manyama grabbed his second goal of the game to equalise in the 73rd minute. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo went on a fantastic individual run all the way into the box from the half-way line and the ball fell kindly for Manyama, who clipped the ball cleverly over the keeper and into the back of the net.

A fantastic turnaround was complete in the 80th minute when the ball was played through in behind the defence of Ngcobo, who cut the ball back into the box for Manyama and he took his time before burying the ball past several Arrows defenders on the line and into the back of the net.
