10-Man Chiefs Miss Out On Third Spot

Kaizer Chiefs missed the chance to move third after dropping points against AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

DStv Premiership

Result: Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 AmaZulu

Date: 24 November 2021

Venue: FNB Stadium

The AmaKhosi are without the services of Khama Billiat which saw Stuart Baxter hand a start to Kgaogelo Sekgota while Njabulo Blom came in for Ramahlwe Mphahlele.

Keagan Buchan was rewarded with a start against his former side after scoring in Usuthu's draw with Stellenbosch and took the place of Lehlohonolo Majoro, who scored the winner in this fixture last season.

Parker was moved into a more advanced role with Billiat missing on the night, although Chiefs did struggle to carve out chances in the early stages of the first half.

Chiefs did go on to get the goal in the 20th minute as Keagan Dolly turned provider and sent a cross into the box, where Buchanan diverted the ball into his own while trying to clear.

Chiefs, however, were forced to re-shuffle the pack for the final as Reeve Frosler was unable to recover from a knock to the head was replaced by Mphahlele.

Usuthu coach Benni McCarthy responded with a change at the start of the second half, as Bonginkosi Ntuli replaced Maduna as they look stage another comeback.

The visitors should have been level on 55 minutes when Thabo Qalinge broke free down the left side, but his strike sailed wide of Daniel Akepyi's goal.

AmaZulu's hopes of a comeback got a boost after Chiefs were reduced to ten men when Cole Alexander was given his marching orders for picking up a second yellow card on the hour mark.

Usuthu got their reward with 14 minutes left on the clock as Ntuli bagged his third goal of the season by turning home De Jong's cross in the six-yard box.

The odds were evened up in the 85th minute when Usuthu's Samkelo Mgwazela was sent off for picking up his second yellow card of the encounter.
