Chiefs To Transfer List Zuma?

Dumisani Zuma has been relegated to a fringe player under Gavin Hunt and indications are that he could soon be put on the transfer list.

While he has spent the last few years battling to break into the first team and become a regular, the attacker was used as an impact player during Ernst Middendorp’s tenure, before the German was replaced by Hunt in September last year.

So the news, as reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, that he could be surplus to requirements aren’t at all surprising, but it will not be as easy as cutting him loose, like Amakhosi did Siphelele Ntshangase.

‘Stash’ was in the final three months of his contract when Chiefs announced the termination of his employment a few weeks ago – Zuma, on the other hand, still has two more years to run.

It will be costly for Amakhosi to release the player when he still has two more seasons on a deal he signed in September 2019.

They can pay the settlement, but will it be the right decision?

Given his age, perhaps offering the player to one of their rivals could be a way to not only revive his career, but to use the fee to get in an adequate replacement.

Zuma joined Chiefs with the hope that the potential he’d shown would soon see him become a regular and graduate from the national junior ranks to Bafana Bafana.

He’s still only 25 and was rated highly by Middendorp, who confirmed he was the one who promoted Zuma to the Bloemfontein Celtic senior team almost eight years ago.

But with only a handful of appearances, and barely featuring in the club’s CAF Champions League campaign, this season his days at Naturena seem numbered.
