Former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Buti Sithole, has picked six players that bring back the memories for him about his time at the Soweto giants.

Sithole – a talented youngster at the time who was playing as a left-back, came through the youth academy at Chiefs and was promoted to the senior team in 2002 as a 17-year-old under Muhsin Ertugral.

The Newcastle-born player had been at Chiefs’ youth academy for only three years when he convinced Ertugral that he was ready for the topflight.
The legendary Doctor ‘16V’ Khumalo and John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeu are some of the names he has singled out in reminiscing about his time at the Naturena club.

“When Doctor Khumalo retired I was already with the Chiefs first team. We had Shoes Moshoeu, Jabulani Mendu, Jabu ‘Ngwana Watshwenya’ Pule (now Mahlangu), Isaac Mabotsa and David Kannemmeyer, oh what an era! Putco (Mafani, former Chiefs PRO) would tell you about us that we were the generation of Operation Vat Alles,” Sithole boasted, speaking to the Siya crew.
Though only 34, Sithole has quit professional football after failing to recover from the family tragedies that distracted his focus, including the death of his mother, sister and brother respectively.
