Chiefs Provide Details Of Billiat’s Progress

Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has given some sort of a timeline with regards to when the club can expect to have talisman Khama Billiat back in action – the forward having missed their previous five Absa Premiership matches.

Billiat has been on an “instituted medical treatment programme” and was last in action when Chiefs were held to a 1-1 draw by Maritzburg United on December 22.

Following their narrow 1-0 win against Golden Arrows on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Middendorp gave a detailed update on when the Zimbabwean forward could return to help boost the log leaders.

“Khama Billiat has had a similar programme since the middle of December, like (Reeve) Frosler, who could only play a maximum of 45 minutes today (against Arrows) and he’s okay, there was no handicap,” the coach explained.

“Khama last played against Maritzburg on December 22 and we decided to totally take him out – and now this week we don’t have a game and we will take him into the training programme. It can be possible that we get him right in the next two weeks, but if we need a week more, we will take it. But in the next week or so he should be available to be fully integrated.”

Chiefs do have some time to recover from a busy January fixture schedule and aren’t in action until February 8 when they host GladAfrica Championship side Royal Eagles in the opening round of the Nedbank Cup.

Given the timeline given by the coach, it’s unlikely that the Chiefs medical team will risk Billiat in that match, but he could be available when they host Maritzburg United a week later.
