The situation at Kaizer Chiefs has been so torrid that Nigerian goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has described the Chiefs dressing as a cemetery.

The Chiefs number one recently gave fans an insight into the Chief's dressing room and the conversations taking place amongst the players. This amid the crisis Amakhosi find themselves in, that sees them linger at the bottom half of the DStv Premiership standings, having amassed just one win from their opening nine matches.

When asked about the mood amongst the players, 33-year-old Akpeyi described the Chiefs dressing room as a cold place but revealed that the players are taking steps to rectify this.

“So far, we’ve not been happy with ourselves because we’ve been down. I’ll emphasize again from the beginning of the season,” Akpeyi told Chiefs’ media department.

“Coming to the change room, we always made the change room a cemetery for ourselves where it is always cold. But, we keep telling ourselves that we need to change a different mentality into the next game and we’ve spoken to ourselves again in the one training session that we had to keep encouraging ourselves that we are going to come right in our next game.

“So, we’ve talked to ourselves and we try to understand our problems in each and every game that we’ve been playing but I think from the response of every single player that everything is coming right and we hope like I said there’s going to be a turnaround in the next game,” Akpeyi explained.

Chiefs’ next assignment comes in the form of a Benni McCarthy-led AmaZulu who they face at the Jonsson Kings Park on Wednesday.
