Nedbank Cup winning coach, Dan ‘Dance’ Malesela, has commented on being linked with Kaizer Chiefs for the upcoming 2019/20 Absa Premiership season.
Since the end of last season, following Chiefs’ loss to TS Galaxy – the National First Division team that Malesela is coaching – some reports in the football fraternity have linked the former Chippa United coach with a move to Amakhosi.
Following Malesela’s successful cup run, it has been said that Chiefs had identified Malesela as a possible addition to their technical team, as an addition to coach Ernst Middendorp’s backroom staff, though Malesela opted against the move.
However, Malesela has dismissed the reports as rumours, when contacted by the Siya crew for clarity.
As reported in the latest Soccer Laduma, edition 1131, Malesela says he has not been contacted by the Soweto giants.
“No, I haven’t been contacted (by Chiefs), not at all,” he said.
The coach did, however, confirm interest in him from two unnamed Absa Premiership clubs.
“Yeah, I spoke to two (clubs), but it wasn’t really something that I was keen on. These things are sometimes complicated and I do not want to just rush like I did before,” the coach added.
“I want to be selective in what I do. I wouldn’t want to join a club with limited resources. Sometimes you need empowerment, you know. You can have the ability to coach, but you also need help from the club. I am not undermining anybody, but I am telling the truth,” he said.
Malesela confirmed that he will continue at TS Galaxy if he does not get what he deems suitable for him in the Absa Premiership.
“I am still with TS Galaxy, and I can only consider moving if something better comes. I won’t move if there is nothing better. Like you say, if Kaizer Chiefs was to come, then we would be talking a different story,” concluded the coach.
