Kaizer Chiefs have finally confirmed the return of Stuart Baxter to the club to permanently take over from Gavin Hunt.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, the Englishman jetted into the country last week to hold talks with Amakhosi and now both parties have agreed on a reunion.
Baxter has signed a two-year contract with an option to have it extended by a further two seasons.
His immediate task is to try and take the Glamour Boys all the way in the CAF Champions League with his predecessor having guided the club to the semi-finals.
Chiefs parted ways with Hunt two weeks ago following a string of poor results in the domestic league, which was worsened by his criticism of players in the media.
Baxter, who has had a successful stint at Chiefs before between 2012 and 2015 – winning two league titles, will be hoping to bring stability.
Amakhosi haven’t won a single trophy since Baxter left the club almost exactly six years ago, and there have been efforts by the club to try lure him back during his time as Bafana Bafana coach three years ago.
The 67-year-old coach is expected to be on the bench when Chiefs face Wydad Casablanca away in Morocco for the first leg next weekend.
Baxter is then also likely to immediately make recommendations on which players are leaving the club, given there are 10 who are out of contract at the end of the month and a few more on the Chiefs’ radar for next season.
The coach’s previous job was in India with Odisha FC, where he was fired earlier this year for comments made in post-match interview, but later apologised for.
