A former Absa Premiership coach has ruled out a possibility of signing a Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, who has been linked with an exit from the Soweto giants.
Following his exit from Black Leopards to join Young Africans in Tanzania, Belgian coach Luc Eymael has reportedly been interested in Chiefs midfielder James Kotei for his new club.
However, Eymael has refuted the reports, while also citing that the 26-year-old Ghanaian needs to take a rest from competitive football.
Eymael told the Siya crew, “We are not signing James Kotei from Kaizer Chiefs, because Kotei is settled at the club but he wants to rest some months, because he has to recover mentally or physically at Kaizer Chiefs..."
"He came from Ghana to Kaizer Chiefs and signed a three-year contract and hasn’t played until now and he’s very weak mentally now because of that. So, he wants to stay for some months without soccer.”
Kotei has been linked with an exit from Amakhosi after struggling for game-time under coach Ernst Middendorp since joining the club in July last year, with reports linking the Naturena club with Kenyan midfielder Anthony Akumu as his potential replacement.
Kotei is yet to make his official debut for Chiefs.
