Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mduduzi Shabalala could be off to Spanish giants Barcelona at the end of the season, the Siya crew has been informed.
As reported by Soccer Laduma in edition 1258, the Catalan giants have made contact with Amakhosi about the possibility of having the 17-year-old attacker over for an assessment, although no formal agreement has been reached.
Now, sources in the know have informed the crew that Shabalala will likely make the trip to Barcelona in June, where he will be assessed by the club’s famous La Masia Academy.
“Contact was made by La Masia, but nothing has been confirmed yet. They were checking the possibilities of having him over, probably around June,” the source informed the crew.
Shabalala has seen his stock rapidly rise both for the Chiefs reserve team where he has been one of the standout performers for coach Vela Khumalo, as well as for the Chiefs first team where he has been roped in by coach Stuart Baxter during the club’s devastating COVID-19 outbreak.
Shabalala was set to jet out to Spain for a separate trip after being crowned the COSAFA Under-17 Player of the Tournament in 2020, where he was selected by the Technical Study Group for a LaLiga development experience, which would see him get the opportunity to observe the football life in Spain and train with a local team, although COVID-19 meant that the trip was called off.
