Gavin Hunt may finally get a chance to coach one of the Big Three clubs in the Premier Soccer League if the rumour mill is anything to go by.
The Siya crew has been informed that the Bidvest Wits coach has made it onto the shortlist at Kaizer Chiefs as the Glamour Boys begin to plan for life after incumbent Ernst Middendorp, although the German still has a year to run on his contract.

It has been widely reported that Middendorp could part ways with Amakhosi at the end of the season – even if he delivers a first Premiership title since 2015.
Hunt’s name has come up, with the Siya crew reporting previously that there was an informal meeting with a top Chiefs official prior to the start of the 2019/20 campaign.
But nothing came of it, and the coach has since then told the SA Football Journalists’ Association that he has indeed had a meeting with a chairman of one of the Big Three outfits, though he did not specify a date.

He said in part: “The problem with the big three clubs is that you are not the boss. I had a meeting with a big chairman from one of the top three, it was a great meeting. He said ‘I want you to be the coach’ and I said ‘no problem, fantastic’. But I told him there’s only one problem, that he’s got four or five bosses there. I said ‘I want to be the boss and I’ve got to bring players and decide who should go’. Well, obviously nothing happened. I could have named my price, whatever I wanted, but the problem is that you can’t be the boss.”
What could open the door for a possible switch to Chiefs is the current situation at Wits, with the likelihood now that the oldest club in SA football could be sold to businessman Masala Mulaudzi and relocate to Limpopo.
If Hunt, believed to be one of the highest paid coaches in the country and a serial winner with four league titles under his belt, is not keen on moving provinces, he could very well be available…
