So determined are Kaizer Chiefs to win a trophy that goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi says that he and his teammates want to start with this weekend’s mid-season Shell Helix Ultra Cup and Macufe Cup against two of their domestic rivals.
Amakhosi host Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday and have to quickly dash off to Mangaung to take on Bloemfontein Celtic barely 24 hours later.
Another trophy that will soon be up for grabs is the Telkom Knockout and following the opening round draw yesterday, the Glamour Boys have been pitted against Cape Town City for an away game in the Mother City next weekend.
“We have been chasing to get a trophy for some seasons now and this would be the first start. We are looking forward to finally winning something this season, even starting with the weekend games that we will be playing,” Akpeyi said.
Chiefs are desperate to end a four-year long trophy drought, with their last piece of silverware in the top flight coming as far back as May 2015.
“It is very important because every win motivates you to the next one, but again, we have to start with one,” the Nigeria keeper explained.
