In light of requests by Kaizer Chiefs fans to management to change the status quo, our secret agent has also weighed in on the much-anticipated squad overhaul at Naturena.
Several Amakhosi supporters mobilised and marched to the club’s headquarters on May 14 to hand over a 12-point memorandum, which was signed and accepted by Jessica Motaung, the daughter of chairman Kaizer Motaung and director of marketing.
One of the notable points was the need to ring the changes in the playing personnel, a promise the fans argued Motaung had made as far back as April 2018.
But with the Glamour Boys struggling to end a six-year trophy drought and now having brought back Stuart Baxter, the last coach to win them silverware, there are huge expectations to go into the 2021/22 season much improved.
“It’s the supporters’ right as stakeholders to voice their pain. That being said, some of the points are valid, but on the other hand, it’s football, the game we love, even in Europe, the likes of Man United, Barcelona, PSG and Juventus have all been knocked off their perches,” the secret agent insisted.
“Football is ever evolving, clubs globally are needing to change with the times across all sections of being a club – from marketing to recruitment. Chiefs is no different. However, clubs locally in the PSL are also trying to evolve, the league is very competitive, it is no longer the Big Three who automatically occupy positions one, two and three.”
Amakhosi have now had three coaches in a single year, but the squad still hasn’t really had a refresh. But the secret agent believes that will soon change.
“Last year Chiefs lost the league by one point, they actually over-achieved in essence. However the fans still called for the coach to be fired, though he’d done a very good job with the squad he had,” the top football intermediary insisted.
“Chiefs are a big club, but it does not give them the right to always be No.1. To be the best you have to compete, evolve and challenge internally, but ultimately have the right structures in place. Amakhosi need a complete overhaul of the squad. I’m sure this will get done.”
