There’s a potential Kaizer Chiefs deal that appears to have hit a snag, with Siya sources informing the crew that the Glamour Boys could be made to wait.
It was reported last month that the Chiefs had become early favourites to land Bidvest Wits defender Buhle Mkhwanazi following the sale of the club to businessman Masala Mulaudzi, who will rename the team and relocate it to Venda.
However, with no firm offer yet from Amakhosi and the Bafana Bafana star, who still has a year to run on his Wits contract, also holding out for his R3-million salary package there’s been suggestions that he may in fact move to Limpopo after all!
Amakhosi have a big date at the Court of Arbitration for Sport on September 9 regarding their appeal to have their FFIA ban overturned.
The club was sanctioned as far back as February from signing players for the next two transfer windows, but that’s not stopped them from hedging their bets and inquiring about a few of the Wits players – among them Mkhwanazi, Sifiso Hlanti and Thabang Monare – but are expecting to only sign them as free agents.
For that to happen, Wits would have to give them their clearances along with several of their teammates who will turn down the offer to relocate, as recently explained by chairman Alan Fainman that no player will be forced to move.
Should Chiefs win their case, but not be able to match Mkhwanazi’s estimated wages, then the player is believed to be prepared to make the great trek with the new owners and see out the remainder of his contract while still being paid what is due to him.
He would then most likely become a free agent in June 2021.
