Stuart Baxter and Molefi Ntseki are front runners for the now vacant Kaizer Chiefs coaching job, the Siya crew can reveal.
Amakhosi announced on Friday evening that the club had terminated Gavin Hunt’s contract despite the fact that the four-times league winner still had two more years remaining on his initial deal having been appointed in September.
With two matches to go and closer to the relegation zone than a Top 8 spot, the Glamour Boys took the decision to part ways with Hunt early.
The Siya crew has been led to believe that a replacement has already been lined up and may be installed before the end of the season.
Indications are that Baxter could make a return to Naturena, where he enjoyed great success between 2012 and 2015 by winning two league titles as well as the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8 before resigning.
What may come as a shock is that he could be joined by Ntseki on the bench as the two are familiar with each other from their recent Bafana Bafana stint.
Chiefs confirmed in a statement on Friday that Dillion Sheppard and Arthur Zwane would take over in the interim, but there was no word on their immediate future.
The Siya crew reported earlier this month that Baxter had gone back to Sweden after spending a few months in SA vising family after he was also sacked from his coaching gig in India with Odisha FC earlier this year.
According to insiders, Baxter is the front runner to replace Hunt, but it’s thought there is no concrete agreement between the parties just yet.
Ntseki became available at the end of March when he, too, was relieved of his duties by SAFA as the Bafana coach.
He had taken over from Baxter in August 2019.
