Insider Reveals Extent Of Chiefs’ Covid Ward

While Kaizer Chiefs are anxiously waiting on a decision from the Premier League about calling off their next four matches, the Siya crew has been informed that Amakhosi might not even be able to put a starting line-up together.

The Glamour Boys are meant to host Cape Town City on Saturday at FNB Stadium in an evening kick-off for the DStv Premiership, however they have since requested that the league postpone not only that fixture but three more after that.

Chiefs have been hit by a Covid outbreak at their base in Naturena and have confirmed there are currently 31 people – including players – who’ve tested positive for the virus and immediately forced into isolation at home.

According to Siya sources at the club, Amakhosi only have 13 players available for the weekend’s match hence the urgent appeal to the league to cancel the game.

City chairman John Comitis confirmed to the Siya crew earlier on Friday that the executive committee, of which he is a member, would meet to discuss whether Chiefs should be granted their request.

Comitis doesn’t want it called off.

The worst case scenario is Chiefs having to make up the numbers with their DStv Diski Challenge reserve league squad on Saturday if their appeal is denied and they have to go ahead and play the match.

In a statement earlier today, the club confirmed they would not have sufficient players and that there’s no technical team to prepare them, suggesting coach Stuart Baxter was one of the 31 people with a positive Covid test.

The league rules say clubs only need a minimum seven players for a game to go ahead, while the match day squad is usually around 18 playing personell.

Chiefs posted images of players in training this week, but The Village has since been shut down!
