The Siya crew has been led to believe that Kaizer Chiefs offered one of their players an early exit package, which he has so far turned down.
Kearyn Baccus is officially in the final five months of his contract at Naturena following his move to South Africa in July 2019 under then coach Ernst Middendorp – but it now appears as though his future is likely to be away from Amakhosi at the end of the season.
Soccer Laduma has established that the midfielder was made an offer to have his current deal terminated prematurely due to a lack of game-time and a clear indication that he was not part of coach Stuart Baxter’s plans over the long term.
Baccus has experienced a significant drop in how regularly he makes the team since signing for Chiefs more than two years ago.
In his first season he made 21 appearance in all competitions, then 24 the following season – mostly as a substitute, as new coach Gavin Hunt juggled the domestic and CAF commitments at the same time with a smaller squad due to the club being banned by FIFA from signing more.
Under Baxter he’s hardly kicked a ball – only three matches so far.
Hence the offer in January to terminate before the actual expiry date of his contract, which is June 30 this year.
According to sources in the know, Baccus has so far rejected the terms and it appears he is willing to sit it out even if it means he will not feature much.
Chiefs on Monday announced that seven players had signed new contracts, but Baccus was not on the list, yet another indication that the midfielder is on his way out.
Below are the seven players with new Chiefs contracts!
