The latest regarding Kaizer Chiefs’ efforts to have their remaining games in 2021 cancelled are being met with resistance, with Siya sources informing Soccer Laduma that the Glamour Boys are expected to return to action on Wednesday!
It was last week that Amakhosi wrote to the Premier Soccer League appealing that five of their DStv Premiership matches be postponed following a Covid outbreak at their headquarters in Naturena with 31 reported cases.
Chiefs argued they would not be able to field a team against Cape Town City at the weekend as well as the four matches that would follow after that – Golden Arrows, Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and Maritzburg United.
The club did not also have a technical team to take them through their training sessions, the statement from Chiefs read.
Since then, much has transpired.
Amakhosi were a no-show in their home game against City this past Saturday at FNB Stadium as the Mother City outfit arrived at Soccer City to find the gates locked, although PSL officials, the match commissioner and the referee were present.
It’s expected that Chiefs will forfeit those points given the precedent set by the league in a previous case very similar last season.
The next match is Arrows on Wednesday night at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, and the Siya crew has been informed that fixture is expected to go ahead.
Insiders at Naturena have told Soccer Laduma that the players coming out of quarantine this week as well as those who had been cleared during the last round of testing, will make the trip to KwaZulu-Natal to play the game.
The rest remain in isolation.
The Siya crew reported on Friday that Chiefs had 13 players available while trying to get the PSL to call off their match against City, but now with a few others out of quarantine it means the Glamour Boys may very well be able to field a team.
What is concerning, however, is that they’ve not been to training because The Village in Naturena has been under lockdown.
