Chiefs In Desperate Plot To Hold Onto Teen Sensation

The Siya crew has been informed that Kaizer Chiefs have made a desperate attempt to hold onto 16-year-old sensation Mfundo Vilakazi, as interest in the player’s services continues to mount.

Last week, an insider at Chiefs confirmed to the Siya crew that the talented star was indeed a part of the Amakhosi setup, where he has been turning out for the club’s under-17 side.

The club’s media officer Vina Maphosa also confirmed on social media that Vilakazi is an Amakhosi player.

However, with the Gauteng Development League having since concluded, a well-placed source informed the crew that ‘OB’ was free to sign for a team of his choice, given that amateur contracts are only valid for one season.

He was registered with Kaizer Chiefs as an under-17 player last season around November. So now that the league is done and dusted, the player is no longer with Chiefs, as an amateur footballer is entitled to one season with a team, especially in development, the player has a right to go anywhere. His desire is somewhere else, although it is undisclosed at the moment. But Mfundo for now is not with Kaizer Chiefs until something has been decided for him,a source informed the crew.

In a desperate attempt to hold onto the player, the source informed the crew that Chiefs have offered the grade 11 pupil a contract with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge side, however, the player is exploring other options.

“Chiefs have offered him a contract as an DDC player and there is another contract, which cannot be disclosed, but there are currently discussions with his family members and his father to decide on everything,” the source added.
